WWYD???

Not sure if I’ve covered this in the past but it’s something I’ve been thinking about.

I think it’s somewhat of an age-old question, especially within the Christian religion.

What if you woke up tomorrow, and there was definitive proof that couldn’t be argued, that Jesus was just another guy?  Definitive proof that there’s nothing past here?  Definitive proof that the bible is a story book?

You go to church on Sunday morning and pastors and priests all around the world are acknowledging that yes, in fact, Jesus was just a guy from Nazareth and there is no afterlife.  The Pope issues an edict that they were wrong.

No birth narrative or walking on water.  No rising from the dead or healing the sick.  None of it.

My question though, isn’t would you follow Jesus and his teaching still; my question is how would your life change?

If you could be 100% certain beyond the shadow of a doubt that there was no heaven or hell, would you change the way you live your life?

Would you stop loving your neighbour if there’s nothing in it for you in the long run?

Would you still help the poor and the community if there’s no reward?

Would you abstain from the evils and sins of this world if there was no consequence?

Or would you continue to love on others and help the needy?  Would you help the widow and coach the little league team?  Would you donate to causes that otherwise wouldn’t have enough funding?

Would you continue to be human with a moral compass of what’s right and wrong even without a book?

Or would you finally try all of those vices you’ve heard so much about?

I honestly don’t have a way to end this particular thought dump other than to ask you to take a close look at yourself, your family and your life and ask yourself:  What would you do?

  1. The former Bishop of Durham, David jenkins, caused a furore in the 80s when he said on a TV interview: “Supposing the tomb was empty, and it may have been, that is not the resurrection. The resurrection is being sure of the Living Lord"
    and
"Surely the Resurrection was clearly much more than just a conjuring trick with bones”.
